Juno Story “Without having to brag too much about it, this (Juno) bar and restaurant is rather cool”
Time Out, 2005

We set out 5 years ago to create a bar and restaurant that was not pretentious, overly expensive or formal. It had to match our ‘laid back’ approach to life in general. It is the only way we know how to run a business – this ethos reflects us and our staff.

As frequenters of the Shoreditch and Hoxton night time establishments we did not need to look too far when it came to finding an area that our concept could ‘sit in’!  The Juno site was formerly a shoe shop, like most of the shops in the area, dating back to the ‘rag trade’ of the early part of the 20th Century.

The site was run down and occupied two floors. There were no gas services, one double electrical socket, one hand basin and no stairs connecting the floors.

Juno in Greek mythology indicates that your need for creative fulfilment is actualised through contact with others. You may need encouragement or inspiration from friends, colleagues or acquaintances.

Juno symbolises independence and a ‘deep’ desire to do things the ‘right way’. That’s us in all honesty. When we designed Juno, we didn’t then and we still do not now, try to pack ‘half’ of Shoreditch High Street into the venue! We purposely put as many sofas and chairs as humanly possible.........onto both floors to create a truly comfortable and relaxed experience.

I’m glad to say we’ve achieved that. People visit us and truly ‘chill’ out because there’s usually seating available to them and warmth of the chef’s cooking in the open plan Kitchen tells you to stop, sit down and unwind!

A customer once thought our basement was a sofa showroom.......... I didn’t laugh!?!?

What we wanted was an easy and comfortable setting where stimulation can come from conversation, current exhibitions, food, drink or our background music.

Have a look at the ‘then’ and ‘now’ and see the journey we’ve taken in bringing one of the most unassuming and creative venues in London to you.
